Mob Psycho 100 season 3

Author ONE is one of, if not the most amazing authors that the anime industry has to offer. If you guys don’t know, ONE is the author of the very popular One Punch Man and Mob Psycho 100.

Mob Psycho 100 is a stunning action, slice-of-life, and comedy series that struck the hearts of fans all around the globe and managed to capture massive attention altogether.

Let’s dive deep and discuss this topic in a bit more detail. But before we get our mind gears moving for Season 3, let’s just remind ourselves about the first and second seasons of Mob Psycho 100.

Everything We Know So Far About Mob Psycho 100

Mob Psycho 100 is a 12-episode anime series that hit the TV back in July 2016.

It is an anime adaptation of a very popular manga series of the same name.

The manga was written and illustrated by the very talented ONE. ONE is also the creator of the very popular One Punch Man and manga like Chikyuu No Kaijuu.

The anime is directed by Tachikawa Yuzuru and animated by Studio Bones. Tachikawa Yuzuru is known in the industry for his directorial works in shows like Death Parade and Deca-Dence.

Whereas, Studio Bones has been responsible for the very famous Fullmetal Alchemist: Brotherhood and My Hero Academia.

This action, supernatural, slice-of-life show approaches the narrative in a sort of satirical yet relatable format.

Talking about the narrative, the anime tells us about a guy named Shigeo Kageyama who has been nicknamed Mob and his daily life as an ESPer.

Mob is an eighth-grader, living his school life as one of the most obscure students to be found.

Although he has psychic powers and is profound at using them, Mob chooses a life where he doesn’t rely on these powers and instead, tries to live like a normal being.

However, as stated earlier, he is an obscure student not because of his psychic powers.

Instead, his obscurity comes from the fact that despite being blessed, he is a failure as a student.

Physically or mentally, he has almost zero qualities to make him stand out in this massive world of scholars.

However, even after having a hard school life, he never relies on his blessing and tries to improve overall as a student on his own.

By the way, he also has a crush on Tsubomi Chan who turns out to be his prime motivation for becoming a stronger individual.

So yeah, that’s Shigeo Kageyama for you. Blessed and cursed by nature at the same time.

His younger brother, however, is an ideal student and is in fact, one of the smartest in his country.

But this difference in academics never brings trouble to the eyes of these brothers and their love stands strong.

Other than his parents, Tsubomi Chan, and his younger brother Ritsu, there is one other person in Mob’s monotonous life.

That’s his master Reigen Arataka. A con artist who took in Mob as his apprentice and owns a spirit exorcism business.

Mob does his part-time job with Reigen and Reigen (claims) to teach Mob how to control his powers.

So that’s the premise of Mob Psycho 100. As the series progresses, new disturbances hit the lives of Mob and we start to learn about life from his perspective.

As you can see, this series is heavy in terms of slice-of-life storytelling and progression, making it a unique watch overall.

And fans love this kind of storytelling, making it so popular in the industry. So for now, that’s all we know about Mob Psycho 100.

Now that we have revised Mob Psycho 100 as a whole, why not take a look at the release dates and announcements of the same and try to analyze if we have any info about it or not?

Official Announcements And Release Date Of Mob Psycho 100 Season 3

Ladies and gentlemen, Mob Psycho 100 season 3 has returned for the 3rd season. The studio BONES announced the upcoming season and released on October 5, 2022.

If we hit our heads hard enough, we would remember that the first season of the franchise aired back in 2016 while the second season aired back in 2019.

The season is said to be the last one and the series will conclude with it. Crunchyroll has announced that the company has bought the right to telecast the 3rd season and it has 12 episodes.

So let’s dive deeper and see more details related to the series. Starting with the source material.

More Source Material Information For Mob Psycho 100 Season 3

Mob Psycho 100 is an anime adaptation of the Mob Psycho 100 manga series.

Mob Psycho 100 manga started publishing in April 2012 and finished back in December 2017.

In other words, the manga series has a definite conclusion to itself given by author ONE and has stopped bringing out new chapters.

There are a total of 101 chapters of the manga accumulated in 16 volumes. This is just trivial, but Mob Psycho 100, much like One Punch Man, is a web manga.

Volumes English Release Date
Volume1 October 24, 2018
Volume 2 March 20, 2019
Volume 3 July 31, 2019
Volume 4 March 18, 2020
Volume 5 June 24, 2020
Volume 6 October 14, 2020

Volume 11 N.A.
Volume 12 N.A.
Volume 13 N.A.
Volume 14 N.A.
Volume 15 N.A.
Volume 16 N.A.

Author ONE is known for being a web manga artist and this fact can be cross-checked in his art style as well.

Coming back to Mob Psycho 100, the manga series was another successful work that brought even more praise to its creator.

And that allowed the series to get an anime adaptation in the first place. The first season of Mob Psycho 100 adapted the first 50 chapters of the manga.

Therefore, the first season starts from Chapter 1 and ends in Chapter 50. Season 2 on the other hand, has only adapted the next 40 chapters of the manga.

Thus, season 2 starts from chapter 51 and ends in chapter 91. Now, this is the biggest problem here.

As stated earlier, the manga has a total of 101 chapters (excluding omakes and specials).

Therefore, by looking at the difference between manga chapters available to manga chapters used previously, we can say one thing for sure.

And that is that the manga doesn’t have enough source material.

Moreover, even in the previous 2 seasons, Mob Psycho 100 took at least 40 chapters into consideration.

So, it will be interesting to see how the 3rd season is going to utilize the remaining chapters.

Popularity Information Of Mob Psycho 100 Season 3

Popularity is a great metric to judge the success of an anime. More popularity means more chances for another season from creators.

But how do you judge a specific anime’s “popularity”? Well, I think I have a great metric to do the same.

I feel I have 3 great metrics to judge the number of hearts an anime has won.

So let’s take a look at all of these metrics individually and with a bit more amount of detail.

First Up, we have Google Trends.

Mob Psycho Season 3 Google Trend

Soon after the announcement ‘Mob Psycho 100 Season 3’ was one of the highly searched topics on the web.

It is visible in the Google trends above.

Twitter

Official twitter account mob Physco

Twitter is home to hundreds and thousands of anime fans out there. Not only that, but it is also the home for many anime creators themselves.

Many directors, animators, producers, etc can be reached on Twitter, making it a great platform for anyone who likes anime in general.

So the popularity of a specific anime on this application would be vital for the “popularity” aspect.

So let’s see how well Mob Psycho 100 is performing on it. Alright! We have great news here.

The official Twitter page of Mob Psycho 100 has 200K+ followers! That’s a lot! Before the announcement, it was just over 100K, and after that fans have given a lot of love.

Twitter pages of shows like Uzaki Chan and I am standing on a million lives have a much smaller share of followers.

Therefore, for anyone out there who was questioning Mob Psycho 100’s popularity, well the answer is, that it’s quite famous.

The anime has a very potent fan following that can motivate the creators to make the next part.

Search In the US, UK

The number of Google searches is a crucial metric to assume the potential size of the fan base.

Think about it in this way, more searches mean that the series is very popular.

Like how KonoSuba has over 100K searches on Google which clearly shows how popular that series is.

After the announcement, in the US alone over 18K people (per month) started to look for mob psycho 100 season 3. The global estimated number reached over 46K.

So, fans are a lot more excited about getting season 3.

Expected Plot Of Mob Psycho 100 Season 3

What’s the expected plot of Mob Psycho 100 Season 3? Where would the story progress? etc.

To answer this, we need to consider 2 possibilities. First is the adaptation of the last 10 chapters.

In that case, it is claimed by fans that there’s a small arc right after the series ended so they can use that as the content.

Of course, I won’t spoil the ending for you but yeah, the series has a bit of content that they can use in the sequel from the manga.

By the way, I might have not mentioned it before but there are a few omakes as well.

Omakes, if you guys don’t know, are extra stuff from an anime franchise that is mostly canon.

The team working over on Mob Psycho 100 can make use of these Omakes.

As you guys know, Mob Psycho 100 isn’t exactly an action anime. It’s a blend of multiple genres including Slice of Life.

Therefore, adding Omakes to bring in more volume to the season wouldn’t be a bad idea.

This is because those omakes can easily fit with the SoL nature of the series.

So if we are going the source material route, then yeah, the plot would be another arc with a few extra episodes that would serve as a conclusion to the story.

The other possibility is an anime-exclusive ending to the series. You see, Mob Psycho 100 adapted the manga well but the last fight in the anime was a bit altered than that of the manga.

Therefore, it gives room to the creators so that they can make an anime-exclusive season where everything is unseen and unheard.

If the creators take that route, then the plot would be just how it has been.

Mob meeting new people, new ESPers, fighting them, and learning in the process. Yeah, it sounds a bit monotonous but the execution by Studio Bones makes it feel so much better.

So we would enjoy the next season nevertheless. For now, we can say that if an anime-exclusive ending took place, we would most likely have new characters and new meetings just how (My Hero Academia Spoilers ahead) various villains gathered after the death of Stain.

There’s a chance that the anime’s exclusive ending would have many new ESPers of psychics getting together to take down Mob or something along those lines.

Whatever that might be we can rest assured that we would enjoy it since the Mob Psycho 100 team never misses a chance to amaze us.

So yeah, that’s what the potential plot for the season would be. It might turn out to be different but based on our speculations, this is the answer we can be certain of.

More of Mob and his adventures. So now that we have a somewhat comprehensive idea of how Mob Psycho 100’s story would unfold, let’s take a look at what the online community has to say.

It is time for Online Reactions of Mob Psycho 100 season 3.

Online Reactions To Mob Psycho 100 Season 3

Online reactions are a great metric to judge the amount of hype or excitement a certain fandom holds for its series.

Whether it’s Attack On Titan or Fullmetal Alchemist, the way the online community reacts to a specific series shapes the journey of that series in the long run.

So for this specific category, we are going to consider 3 online platforms. These platforms have a lot of anime fans hanging around, having their chats and discussions.

If we get the idea of what the hardcore fans have to say about its sequel then it’s a win for us.

Let’s have a look.

Twitter

The first platform that we are going to take a look at is Twitter. As I mentioned earlier, Twitter is home to many of our anime buddies and daddies.

In other words, anime viewers and creators. Any sort of positive notion on this platform may lead to direct notice of the creators themselves.

Announce, ent brought a lot of excitement to the mob fandom and you can notice it for yourself here.

Now let’s head over to our homies on Reddit and let’s see what they have to say about this amazing anime’s third season.

Reddit

Reddit is yet another platform where fans have a ton of fun hanging on. Unlike Twitter, there aren’t many creators on this platform but there are Reddit AMAs where anime creators participate.

Moreover, this platform is mainly used for its versatility and we can’t question it since this platform is very convenient to use.

After all, not every app has the potential to mess up the stock market. Am I right Gamestop?

But yeah, Reddit is incredible and you can feel so after you realize that there are over 2.6 million people on subreddit r/anime.

By the way, before I mention that, I just want to remind you guys that the subreddit r/mobpsycho100 has over 81K members.

The Reddit community of Mob Psycho is very much excited for season 3. Each post is filled with a lot of comments and here is one such post.

Mob Psycho Ratings and Reviews

Positive ratings and reviews are pure indications of the sheer amount of admiration a specific anime gets.

And this is not only exclusive to anime. Any medium of entertainment or any work of art becomes more and more defined as it is pelted by criticisms and bestowed with appreciation.

This is a never-ending chain. And this chain just so happens to be a significant aspect of the success of a specific anime.

Let’s take a look at what our homies have to say about this series’ greatness or weakness.

By the way, for this specific aspect, the 2 sites that we are going to be focusing on are IMDb and MyAnimeList.

Websites Ratings
Myanimelist 8.48
IMDb 8.6
Crunchyroll 4.8

Let’s do this.

IMDb

IMDb rating for Mob psycho 100

Starting our analysis, we have one of the most popular entertainment websites of all time, IMDb.

This is a platform that is used by everyone and their mothers because of how convenient it is.

Nevertheless, IMDb also has anime entries over it, making it ideal for our research. So let’s have a look at what IMDb users have to say about our beloved Mob Psycho 100.

Ladies and gentlemen, I have some amazing news for you guys. Just as you would expect, Mob Psycho 100 has a fantastic rating of 8.6.

That’s right! It is loved THAT much. But I am pretty sure that you aren’t surprised.

Like why would you? It’s such an amazing series that we all can’t help but love it.

The ratings are spectacular but not just the ratings but also the reviews. Almost all the reviews about this series are positive and appreciate the hell out of its animation and storytelling.

Not much of a surprise though since we know it’s THAT amazing. However, I would mention that not every single review is completely positive.

There are a few people who criticize the art style but hey, not everyone would vibe with everything.

Irrespective of what you are, you can never have 0 haters. There would be someone out there who doesn’t like your presence.

Oh yeah, life lessons in an anime article. Anyway, we can conclude this section of our discussion by saying that our buddies over on IMDb enjoyed this series to their hearts.

Now let’s head over to MyAnimeList and see what those guys have to say about it.

MyAnimeList

review on myanimelist for mob pyscho 100

This is THE website that is ruled by weebs and otakus. If you are here means that 99% of the time, you are an anime fan.

So knowing about a specific anime’s ratings and reviews would be crucial since the amount of accuracy here is incredible.

Our fellow anime lovers hang out a ton on this website so let’s see what they have to say about Mob Psycho 100 and its creation.

Now before we dive deep, let me just remind you guys that MAL has separate entries for separate seasons.

With that out of the way, let’s take a look. So the first entry is the first season of Mob Psycho 100 and as you would expect, the ratings are incredible.

Mob Psycho 100 season 1 has a rating of 8.48! That’s an incredible score. I know what many of you guys are thinking, ‘Hey 8.48 isn’t THAT much.’ Well, my friend, on MAL it is much more than THAT.

Because if you are a frequent user of MAL, you know that anime fans here are extremely critical of their opinions.

Just a minute mistake and bam, you get a 5/10 by 10k anime fans. So such a high score on this platform is an achievement of its own.

Even if we talk about the reviews for the first season, they are unanimously admired with just a few exceptions.

These reviews are heavily filled with animation appreciation but that’s perfectly understandable, right? I mean, it’s Studio Bones.

They do S+ tier stuff. Not to mention, ONE’s incredible writing also accounts for the significant amount of positivity in most reviews.

Overall, the first season of Mob Psycho 100 made an amazing first impression on many anime fans.

Now let’s dive into the second season of the franchise. A lot of times, the sequel turns out to be rather disappointing due to a stronger prequel or a heavily critical fanbase that bothered to continue.

But is it a similar case with Mob Psycho 100? HELL NO! The second season of Mob Psycho 100 has an outstanding score of 8.82 which, if you guys don’t know, makes it the 24th Best Anime.

That’s right ladies and gentlemen, the second season of our favorite Mob Psycho 100 is actually amongst the Top 25 Best Anime of all time.

Yeah, I am happy as well. The reviews are insane and the sheer amount of appreciation is humongous!

These pieces of praise include appreciation for characters, animation, and narrative. The way this story portrays its message struck the hearts of most viewers.

No wonder it is SO admired. Across the board, we can easily say that the Mob Psycho 100 franchise nails it about reviews and ratings.

One of the best anime for a reason, right?

Mob Psycho 100 Manga, DVD/Blu-Ray, and Merchandise Sales

Now is the time for one of the most important aspects of anime creation. Now is the time to discuss SALES.

You see, anime isn’t for charity. Almost every single piece that is made by creators is made to earn maximum profit.

So yeah, that goes for shows like Mob Psycho 100 as well. Even though the studios gave a lot of freedom to their animators, the show is still meant to earn money to have another season.

So let’s see the profit and sales details of this series.

Manga sales

First up, we are going to look at the manga sales for this franchise. Well weebs, the truth is very comforting.

Mob Psycho 100 Manga had over 1.2 million copies in circulation as of July 2016.

That’s a great number which could be the potential reason for the next season to show up in the upcoming years.

That’s a green light from our end. And did I mention that it has won the 62nd Shogakukan Manga Award in the shōnen category?

Don’t question it ever again. I would like to mention that these manga sales are not as high as you might expect them to be because this series is a web manga that can be read for free online.

So yeah, 1.2 million with that background is a considerable number. Feel free Mob Psycho 100 fans, things are looking great.

Blu-ray/Dvd sales

Now let’s take a look at the prime source of earning for any anime, Bluray sales.

If you want to support the industry, just buy the Blu-ray set because that significantly contributes to the making of a series.

So considering Blu-ray sales is very crucial for our analysis. Let’s see what we have got here.

So the first volume of Mob Psycho 100 Blu-ray set sold over 4220 (cumulative) copies.

In comparison, Dragon Ball Super had (cumulative) sales of around 670. So yeah, these numbers are really good, especially from a weekly standpoint.

But that’s the case for season 1. What about season 2 you may be thinking.

Well, that’s not as positive as you might think. The second season of Mob Psycho 100 sold only around 1408 copies of BD.

That’s not a great number. However, these sales numbers might not be as significant nowadays because we have streaming platforms now.

So even if Mob Psycho 100 has dropped in sales as the season continued, the potential reason could be the use of Netflix or other streaming services.

So don’t lose hope my Mob Psycho 100 homies. These numbers are good on their own.

Merchandise

Finally, let’s take a look at the merchandise offered by the franchise. 25 figurines which include Reigen, Dimple, Mob, and Teruki.

Over 1000 items are available as general merchandise. The figurines didn’t contribute to the major part of their income since many of them were fanmade but other merch did.

So the series has earned quite a considerable amount from merch sales. Across the board, the series seems to be a bit lacking in manga, Blu-ray, and figurine sales.

However, streaming and merch make up for it. We can assume that the series made enough profit that it wouldn’t have to bother about money for the next part.

Popular Mob Psycho 100 Characters

Now you would be guessing which characters are going to make a comeback. You may be sure about some while not so sure about others.

So let’s know a little bit more about the characters we think will be appearing in season 3.

Mob

Shigeo Kageyma

The heart and soul of the show, Shigeo Kageyama, is bound to show up again in the upcoming season of our beloved series.

Mob has improved quite a lot as the season passes by so we can be certain that his developed character would bring more qualitative content in the next part.

Reigen

reigen

If Reigen doesn’t make it to the next season, I am quitting Mob Psycho 100.

Like for real. He is the actual deal here, ladies and gentlemen. One of the prime reasons why I loved Mob Psycho 100 season 2  is the Reigen arc which is, in my opinion, the best Mob Psycho 100 arc.

The amount of connection and relatability that we got from that arc was incredible. Made Reigen one of the most finely written characters in modern anime.

Dimple

dimple

Dimple aka Ekubo is also an important character in the franchise. Yes, he isn’t in the spotlight all of the time but his overall contribution to the series is heavily significant.

We just can’t help but admire his presence.

Ritsu

ritsu

Mob’s younger brother also had a great character arc in the previous season which made him an exceptional person.

That arc was probably the second-best arc in the series and I know you love it.

As time passes by, Ritsu becomes more and more defined as a personality and seems to contribute significantly to the story.

He gets his spotlight and tries to make the most out of it. His reappearance in the next season is vital.

I believe this would do it for now. Of course, there are other notable characters but for now, these are the important ones that need to return in the third season.

By the way, we have discussed almost everything about Mob Psycho 100, right? But I believe there are a few more things that we need to talk about before concluding this article.

Let’s have a quick look at them.

Other Decisive Factors for Mob Psycho 100 Season 3

For the most part, this article has a comprehensive understanding of Mob Psycho 100 and the reasons for its 3rd season.

We have discussed almost everything we should have but there are 2 other factors we need to consider to reach a more precise conclusion.

Let’s have a quick look at them.

Ending Of Mob Psycho 100 Season 2

First up, we have to remember the ending of Mob Psycho 100 Season 2 because the ending of one season is the opening for another.

So hit your head and remind yourself what happened in the last few episodes. If you remember, the evil organization CLAW was on the verge of defeat, and the boss of the organization, Toichiro Suzuki, was set on self-destruction.

However, our boy Mob decided to NOT abandon him and instead, give him a warm farewell.

In the end, Mob ends up saving Toichiro as well as the area around him from a massive explosion.

Later on, Toichiro hands himself over to the police and quits his acts. Looking back at his life, he realizes that his ideologies were wrong and Mob has always been on the right path.

Finally, we get to see Mob and Reigen in his office with a new employee, and the story ends.

As you can see, the evil organization that claimed to have the strongest of ESPers was defeated so technically, the story shouldn’t have anything more to display.

But there are a few problems here. As claimed by Toichiro, he searched the entire world and couldn’t find a stronger psychic than him but Mob was stronger than him.

Meaning there is a possibility of more ESPers in the world that could potentially be stronger than Mob.

Their meeting with him could be the plot for the next season. We also have Toichiro’s son claiming that Ritsu’s latent powers are stronger than that of Mob.

Controversy Around Mob Psycho 100

‘Controversy creates cash’ but not every time. A lot of times, significant controversy can result in the cancellation of a specific series.

However, we can rest assured that there is no such problem with Mob Psycho 100.

It has not been a part of any major controversy for now. The one thing that people talk about a lot is the ending of the manga which wasn’t as top-notch as people wanted it to be but other than that, it’s a solid series.

A lot of people also prefer that the anime either uses the Omakes or tries to go for some original content to make the next season.

That’s a great notion since they can’t rely on the few left chapters of the manga but that’s in the hands of the producers we can just speculate for now.
