Night Sky Season 2: Everything We Know So Far

Night Sky

Night Sky is a new show that premiered on Amazon Prime Video in May 2022. The show was created by Holden Miller and had only one season with eight episodes.

This science-fiction drama series has captured the audiences’ attention with its mysterious and unique plotline that was unlike any sci-fi series on air. Night Sky introduces a seemingly ordinary elderly couple living in the American Midwest.

They secretly travel to an underground chamber in their backyard that hides a startling surprise. It is a portal to a strange new world that appears barren and inhospitable. This elderly couple are unaware of this barren new world, how they travel there, or what dangers it poses to them.

Their blissfully ignorant world is gatecrashed by an enigmatic young man, Jude, who appears to be looking for this portal. He sets off a series of events that uncover the existence of a secret cult that monitors these portals and exposes the elder couple to danger.

This vague introduction to the series is enough to grasp our attention and draw us to it. The cast is equally fabulous, with Sissy Spacek and J. K. Simmons playing the elderly couple.

The critics and audiences loved the show and were devastated by its cancellation. Night Sky also received nominations for acting performances by Sissy Spacek and J. K. Simmons from Satellite Awards and Critics Choice Super Awards.

Official Announcement on Night Sky Season 2

Before we delve deeper into the plot and future of the series, here is the official announcement on the series. The series was released in May 2022 on Amazon Prime Video, but in July of the same year, it was cancelled.

Barely a month and a half after its premiere, Prime Video cancelled the show due to high costs of production and insufficient viewership. However, the show has achieved a feat no other TV series managed.

Night Sky was beamed into space with the collaboration of Prime Video, Amazon Web Services (AWS), and satellite services providers SES and Intelsat. It had its first-ever intergalactic premiere. On earth, however, this feat did not impress the bosses for long as they decided to axe the show.

Prime Video is already feeling the burden of costs from high-budget shows like The Rings of Power series, The Terminal List, The Boys, etc. Hence, we might not see the second season of Night Sky anytime in the future.

Previous Season of Night Sky and Episodes

Night Sky was an Amazon Prime Video original series that had only one season and eight episodes. Each of the episodes is almost an hour long. The plot of the series starts with an elderly couple who had long ago stumbled upon a secret chamber that took them to a deserted and barren world, unlike anything they had seen.

They hide this secret and use this chamber as a way to cope with all the grief, loss, and loneliness in their life. All day long, they would go on about their daily life as a loving and caring couple with all the mundane worries about their only living relative, their granddaughter, Denise.

Suddenly, their world is upended when a stranger, Jude, comes to their chamber with new knowledge and his own grief. Jude’s arrival and the activity of their nosy neighbour, Byron, keeps the couple occupied while also helping them uncover hidden agendas and dangerous conspiracies.

Towards the end of season one, we get a vague idea about the hidden Cult of Caerul and the organisation called Fallen World. As both these powerful groups are fighting for control of the chamber, the elderly couple discover some startling new information on this seemingly barren wasteland.

They end the series with a cliffhanger, making it more interesting and heartbreaking.

Expected Plot of the Upcoming Season of Night Sky Season 2

Although Amazon Prime Video cancelled the series last year, there have been speculations about the possible plotline of Night Sky season 2 for a long time. The finale of season one was a cliffhanger that left scope for an interesting and engaging next season.

To discuss the story of season 2, we need to give a few spoilers about season 1. Hence, please be warned that there are spoilers ahead. In season one, Byron, the well-meaning but nosy neighbour of the Yorks goes missing.

He enters the chamber and is not seen afterwards. Owing to this, Franklin decides to wear a spacesuit and go searching on the barren wasteland for Byron. While Franklin’s suit runs out of oxygen, a desperate Irene runs out into the barren land without a suit and survives.

This proves that the wasteland is habitable. As they continue to search, the Yorks come upon a protected city in the distance. This startling discovery paves the way for season 2 where the Yorks reach the city and could uncover the secret of space and time travel.

We could discover that the portal in the chamber is not a doorway to a distant planet but a future earth. Jude has gone searching for his father and reaches another city that could well be Earth in future rather than a distant planet.

Where Jude goes and if he finds his father is another plot for season 2.
