Snowpiercer Season 4: Everything We Know So Far

Snowpiercer Season 4: Everything We Know So Far

A small-screen adaptation of both the 2013 Bong Joon-hoo full-length feature of the same name and the French novel Le Transperceneige by Jacques Lob, Benjamin Legrand, and Jean-Marc Rochette, Snowpiercer introduces us to a diverse group of passengers on a gigantic train which seems to be circling the globe while carrying them.

The catch here is that these passengers are the only remaining members of humanity after their world transformed into a frozen wasteland about seven years ago. Since the Bong Joon-hoo directorial venture opened to solid reviews a decade ago, it was not surprising to see its plot inspiring a thrilling series.

Indeed, the elements that made the 2013 flick a memorable one are duly present here. However, those who have seen the movie will perhaps miss the charismatic Chris Evans in the show.

That being said, the story of the super-fast train transporting people around a dystopian wasteland does manage to keep us on the edge of our seats and makes up for the actor’s absence.

While the program is based on the Chris Evans-led title, it is not exactly set under the same continuity. But, it manages to perfectly showcase how the ones who have survived have sought refuge on the constantly moving luxury train and are, eventually, rigidly divided into classes.

As you’d have guessed, it leads to a revolution within the train and a subsequent war against the forcefully imposed social hierarchy as people start fighting for the scarce resources available.

Therefore, credit has to be given to the makers of the series for being able to inject themes of class conflict, social injustice, and the politics of survival into its storytelling.

Official Announcement of Snowpiercer Season 4

The first season of Snowpiercer debuted on TNT in 2020 in the middle of the COVID-19 pandemic. Its second season was released in January the following year. Not long after that, the show was revived for the third season, which hit our screens in the fourth week of January 2022.

Since the first three seasons saw a seemingly smooth run, it was expected that the fourth one would be launched sooner than later as well. However, much to our surprise, the show was cancelled by parent company WBD in January 2023.

Ever since it’s been announced that the fourth season may not see the light of day, it’s become crystal clear that its network has failed to do justice to its full potential.

As the relentless search for a new home for the dystopian sci-fi is on, it is imperative to mention that the story is far from done. Therefore, an abrupt conclusion to the series right now doesn’t do justice to its previous seasons either.

That being said, it must be noted that the plans to launch the fourth instalment of the program were always in place. For some reason, a call was taken by Warner Bros. Discovery to not release the next batch of episodes.

But, that doesn’t necessarily mean that the show may have finished for good, though. We say so because its producers are doing everything they can to find a new home for the same.

Previous Seasons and Episodes of Snowpiercer

Not a lot of people are aware of the fact that Snowpiercer was renewed for a fourth season months before the premiere of the third season. However, an abrupt and awkward decision to not air it put its fans off; especially because the third season marked the beginning of a significant chapter in the development of the overall story.

Not only did we witness the return of Melanie Cavill (Jennifer Connelly) in it but we also saw her turning on Andre Layton (Daveed Diggs) by thwarting his plan to bring the train to New Eden in the Horn of Africa. The place was believed to be one of the only warmest spots left anywhere on the frozen planet.

We do not know if the fourth season of the series is going to see the light of day anytime soon, but we certainly can celebrate its run on television by mentioning some of its best episodes to our readers.

So, if you truly do intend to take our word for it, watch out for the episodes Many Miles from Snowpiercer (Season 2, Episode 6), 994 Cars Long (Season 1, Episode 10), The Train Demanded Blood (Season 1, Episode 9), Into the White (Season 2, Episode 10), and The Original Sinners (Season 3, Episode 10).

A total of 30 episodes have been released so far through the course of the show’s three seasons, with a runtime of 44–51 minutes each.

Where to Watch Snowpiercer

Viewers from Canada and the United Kingdom who may be interested in catching the show right now can easily find it on Netflix. However, those living in the United States of America will be left disappointed for Snowpiercer is not available for streaming on any platform in the country at the moment.

It might be an indication that it was fired from a new, undiscovered place populated by other survivors. So, of course, if the fourth season releases, it can easily begin by showing who launched the missile and where it is headed.

Also, the third season showcases the train finally being split into different groups with their own cars. Needless to say, it’d have been fun to see how these new paths work out for the groups led by Melanie, Andre, and Layton in the fourth season.
