Official Announcement on Locke & Key Season 4

Locke & Key is a comic book written by Joe Hill and Gabriel Rodriguez. The book was adapted into a TV series by Carlton Cuse, Meredith Averill, and Aron Eli Coleite in February 2020.

Based on the success of the first season, Netflix immediately ordered season 2 and season 3. At that time, the showrunners and Netflix decided that season 3 would be the final season of the series, but they did not disclose this fact.

In a later discussion in 2021, Averill also hinted at a hopeful season 4. Finally, in April 2022, Netflix announced that Locke & Key season 3 would be the final season, much to the shock of audiences and fans.

It was because there were many subplots and side stories that had a lot of potential to build a season 4. However, the show creators gave closure for the main plotline and ended the series with season 3 as announced.

It was also confirmed by Carlton Cuse and Meredith Averill that the story was intended to be a three-season story, and they never intended to extend the show. So, it can be confirmed that Locke & Key season 4 will not be happening in the near future.

We could, however, hope for a reboot or a spin-off series considering the crossovers between the two Netflix series, Locke & Key and Sandman.

Google Trends Data Analysis of Locke & Key Season 4

The Netflix series Locke & Key has been a popular search item since the series premiered in 2020. With every season, its popularity was cemented until the sad news of its ending.

In April 2022, Netflix announced that the series had come to an end with Locke & Key season 3. The Google Trend for the series Locke & Key has dipped since 2022.

It has been on a smooth downward trend as the fans have received a closure with the Locke & Key season 3 finale. The show’s creators also confirmed that the show was meant to be a 3-season series all along.

If we specifically search for Locke & Key season 4, the trend is quite unstable, with many dips and peaks. However, on average, the number is below the halfway mark for this search term.

This indicates that the followers and audiences have accepted the season 3 finale and are happy with it.

Social Media Engagement of Locke & Key Season 4

Social media was much more livelier than Google Trends about the TV series Locke & Key. Facebook and Reddit have been active with fanfiction and discussions on the TV series and comic books from Joe Hill and Gabriel Rodriguez.

Fans appear to love any and all reminders of the show, from key memorabilia to spin-off comics from the show. Fans are also discussing Locke & Key season 4, but a majority seem to be content with the closure given in season 3.

Expected Plot of Upcoming Season of Locke & Key

As mentioned earlier in the article, the show’s creator had planned the show as a 3-season series and hence, ended the series after solving the mystery behind the murder of Rendell Locke.

They also appeared to have solved the situation of the Keyhouse and its portals. However, in the finale episode, they again stoked the fires by showing soft whispers arising in the Keyhouse.

This indicates that there are more missing keys that need to be resolved. This in itself opens up the scope for a new season 4. Apart from this, there are a few more characters that were not given a proper closure that could have been handled better if there was another season.

Having said this, we can hope for a spin-off that will accommodate other characters who did not get their own storyline. We could also hope for a show that crosses Sandman characters and Locke & Key characters that have a lot of scope.
