The Fall Of The House Of Usher

Based on the works of Edgar Allan Poe, The Fall of the House of Usher documents the dramatic rise and brutal fall of the infamous Usher family. Brought to you by the creators of The Haunting of Hill House and The Haunting of Bly Manor, the Netflix series is a treat for those who are almost always in the mood to stream something spooky but not senseless.

So, as we witness the fall of the fictional Usher family, we get to realize that they are a pack of merciless individuals who seem to have lost touch with their human side.

Mike Flanagan provides his distinctive touch to this modern-day adaptation of Edgar Allan Poe's stories. His artistic blend of spine-chilling and heartbreaking horror is on full display here and is sure to take you by surprise.

As the story unfolds one episode at a time, we understand that this horror drama is doing its best to touch upon several of Poe's classic short stories. Indeed, the attempt is successful and the result is a complete story which treats each of its characters with utmost care.

Now that the first season has culminated, viewers seem to be wondering if the second is ever going to see the light of day. Let's find out.

Official Announcement Of The Fall Of The House Of Usher Season 2

Allow us to tell you that Mike Flanagan's multi-generational story, which is set primarily in the present day, was always supposed to be a single-season miniseries. If you've seen the show, you must have noticed that its plot was neatly wrapped by its definitive ending.

Indeed, "The House of Usher" has fallen by the end of the show's eight episodes, leaving little to no room for a second instalment. That said, it is imperative to mention that most of Flanagan's projects have been designed as limited series for Netflix.

However, his contract with the streaming giant is reportedly over, which means that he can take up any project that he wants to continue on another platform. Whether or not he'll decide to renew The Fall of the House of Usher is still a mystery though.

There is a strong possibility that the show may not be renewed for a fresh season, especially because its makers seem to have demolished every member towards the end of it.

So, yes, this chapter of the Usher family may have been closed, but there's always going to be enough space for Mike Flanagan and his team to start working on fresh ideas.

Previous Season And Episodes Of The Fall Of The House Of Usher

The Fall of the House of Usher adapts several Edgar Allen Poe short stories within one big project for Netflix. Needless to say, it tells a complete story. Mike Flanagan and his merry band of spooksters have done a great job of blending drama with horror and poetry in the miniseries.

In the story, we are introduced to the dysfunctional but hugely popular and successful Usher clan. One episode at a time, we see them perish after being haunted by a curse/supernatural force.

The fifth original series in the 'Flanaverse' to arrive on Netflix comprises eight episodes, each of which is about an hour (or more) long. Even though The Fall of the House of Usher was always billed as a limited series, viewers were left wondering if it could be revived in the near future.

Since Flanagan has reportedly signed a new deal with Amazon Prime Video, a renewal seems highly unlikely, but that doesn't necessarily mean that you can't relish the show on Netflix.

Some of the top-rated chapters in the series are The Raven, The Pit and the Pendulum, Murder in the Rue Morgue, The Masque of the Red Death, and The Tell-Tale Heart.

Where To Watch The Fall Of The House Of Usher

Fans will be elated to know that the series is available for streaming on Netflix in countries like the United Kingdom, the United States of America, and Canada. So, what are you waiting for?

Just go ahead and hit the play button on Netflix.

Google Trends Data Analysis Of The Fall Of The House Of Usher Season 2

Since all the main characters in this multi-generational story are killed by the time it reaches its finale, it's a given that it is not going to be renewed in the future.

And, since the show is unlikely to be revived, it's only obvious that the search trends related to the same in Google are going to witness a drastic decline. Indeed, the searches concerning the second season of The Fall of the House of Usher tell an expected tale.

We say so because ever since the show has culminated and it was made clear that it was only meant to serve as a limited series, the searches for its second edition have dipped on Google; especially in the past few months.

The trends are not in the least bit surprising because it's common for viewers to lose interest in shows that are less likely to be renewed. That being said, if you are familiar with Mike Flanagan's body of work, you'd know that almost all of his Netflix shows have been designed as limited or miniseries.

Social Media Engagement For The Fall Of The House Of Usher Season 2

Sure, it's been cleared that there are no plans to bring The Fall of the House of Usher season 2 to Netflix anytime soon, but it hasn't stopped the subscribers from wondering if the modern horror heavyweight Mike Flanagan has something in store for them.

Quite a few users on various social media platforms are hoping to see the show renewed. While some seem to have made their peace with the fact that the horror drama was a limited series, others are in no mood to rule out its second edition entirely.

Even though The Fall of the House of Usher was always intended to be a limited series, some people believe that a new show based on a similar storyline or its spin-off can be released on Amazon Prime Video, since Flanagan's contract with Netflix has ended.

Indeed, there's no denying that Flanagan's core audience believes that he could spiritually carry the story forward in a spin-off movie or series. Now, only tell will tell whether this happens or not.

Expected Plot Of The Fall Of The House Of Usher Season 2

Let's all just accept the fact that the odds are stacked heavily against The Fall of the House of Usher's continuation. The show was perhaps never architected in a way that it could have continued after telling its story.

If you've been through it, you'd know that it comprises a beginning, a middle, and an end. Not only that but it also treats each character with care that includes a full arc.

Needless to mention, Mike Flanagan and his team didn't want any character to be overshadowed by another to ensure that they were all done justice. Now that Netflix has pulled the plug after only a single season, it is a given that the man and his team will be working on something fresh, that too for Amazon Prime Video.

Therefore, it is safe to assume that the Mike Flanagan Edgar Allen Poe-based horror story has culminated for good. However, if the series had continued, they could have possibly explored a few of the characters shown in the first season.

There could have been an attempt to showcase how some of Roderick Usher's bastard children turned out to be the way they did and who their mothers were.

Top Characters In The Fall Of The House Of Usher

Mike Flanagan's latest miniseries is brought to life courtesy of the presence of these remarkable characters.

1. Verna

Verna

Carla Gugino's Verna is undoubtedly the most enigmatic and engaging character in The Fall of the House of Usher. Ever since we first lay our eyes on her, it becomes clear that she is not human and vitally important to the plot.

While it truly is tough to predict who her next target is going to be, what is, however, obvious is that she is powerful enough to take the whole Usher clan down.

Indeed, we are taken into the past and shown how she once crossed paths with Roderick and Madeline. We also notice that she offered them a life of success and wealth in exchange for the demise of their entire bloodline.

Even though the siblings consider her to be fake at first, they are shocked beyond their wits when Verna reappears after gears to claim her end of the deal.

2. Arthur Gordon Pym

Arthur Gordon Pym

Mark Hamill manages to make a solid impression as Arthur Gordon Pym. He is shown as an erstwhile adventurer who now happens to be the closest confidante of the Usher family.

In other words, he gets his hands dirty for them as their trustworthy attorney and fixer. Irrespective of how messed up the family is, he always seems to be there to bail them out.

While we aren't shown much of his personal life, what we do know is that he is the wisest character on the show. He knows when he can win and simply accepts his fate until he cannot anymore.

3. Camille L'Espanaye

Camille L'Espanaye

The beautiful Kate Siegel plays Camille L'Espanaye, one of Roderick Usher's illegitimate daughters, with conviction. She handles the company's PR and is, therefore, entrusted with the task of keeping the family name clean in the eyes of the public.

Add to that the fact that the lady has a nose for secrets. Indeed, we see her trying to amass as many of her family's dirty secrets as possible before death finds its way to her.

Arrogant, reliable, and sexy, Camille trusts her assistants more than her family. Unfortunately, she bids adieu to the world after being maimed by Verna in the form of an enraged chimpanzee.

4. Madeline Usher

Madeline Usher

Roderick Usher's twin happens to be the brain behind the mammoth success of the pharmaceutical empire. The remarkably intelligent woman is ready to give up on a lot of things, including her family, in the pursuit of name and fame.

While we can see her working on innovative projects involving advanced technology, she also seems to be a little unnerved when she finally discovers that Verna has returned. Even though she accepts that she is back almost instantly, it doesn't put her ambitious persona on the back foot.

Matter of fact, she is willing to bank on Arthur to get the better of Verna. Needless to say, Mary McDonnell's resolute Madeline is the smartest character in the entire clan.

5. Roderick Usher

Roderick Usher

The patriarch of the family, Roderick Usher, is also the character who takes us through his family's past and present. He and his sister are solely responsible for the tragedies that befall the infamous Usher clan.

While he was once warm and affectionate, he lets go of his compassionate side to pursue greater heights professionally; even though it meant losing his first wife to distance. As the story progresses, we learn that he and his team have committed unspeakable crimes over the years to rake in billions.

Bruce Greenwood's performance ensures that this character turns out to be one of the highlights of the limited series.
